Week 1 - John Marsden Bio

John Marsden was born in Victoria, Australia in 1950. From an early age he enjoyed reading. At school his teachers encouraged him to write. When he was nine, he decided he wanted to become an author. He went to The King's School Parramatta and then the University of Sydney. He was studying law, but decided it was boring so he dropped out. For about 10 years he went from job to job, making enough money to keep himself going.
When he was 28, John began a teaching course. After he started teaching he became more excited about writing. In 1987, his first book, 'So Much to Tell You', was published. It won many awards and record numbers were sold. He has now written 39 books including 'The Great Gatenby', 'Letters from the Inside' and the highly popular 'Tomorrow Series' followed by the 'Ellie Chronicles.' John has sold about 2 and a half million books in Australia alone and has also won every award for young people's fiction in Australia. In America he has twice been named as one of the Best Books of the Year by the American Library Association.
